Seek first His kingdom

What is happiness? Some people think that it is when you don’t have any financial problems, others — when all friends and relatives are sound and well. The preacher Aleksej Obukhov talked about it at the Sunday meeting of the church “Philadelphia” on 14 March.

The Bible gives us a good instruction how to become happy. But at first this instruction may seem illogical. Thus, in the Scriptures it is said that it is more blessed to give than to receive. It is a strange statement and one tends to think: “We live from hand to mouth. How can we give somebody anything?” The confirmation of this principle is in Matthew 6:28-33. All that worries us in this world is nothing compared to God’s calling: “Seek first His kingdom”. It means we should bring the good news and live according to God’s word. In 1 Chronicles 4:9, 10 we read about king Jabez who trusted God and didn’t create his own “kingdom” but served God’s kingdom.

Senior pastor Pavel Zhelnovakov told about life in spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:6 says: “He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant — not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life”. Life in spirit that is given by Christ is something very special. Though we should ask ourselves whether we want it. If we want God work through us in a special and sometimes even supernatural way, we should go and preach, letting the Holy Spirit lead us. Moreover we must understand the name of the Lord. Only then our prayer in the name of God will have the real power. Jesus Christ promised His disciples to send another Counselor — the Holy Spirit. He also said that streams of living water would flow from them. This work of the Holy Spirit is possible when His presence in us is constantly growing. We should be personally interested in the service of the Holy Spirit in us.

Next Sunday the church will have a holy communion. It will be the first communion for 15 people who were baptized on 13 March.
