The year for Jesus

At the Sunday meeting of the church “Philadelphia” on 20 June there was a holy communion. This time the Lord’s supper was at the beginning of the meeting, not at the end of the service as it used to be. Before the communion senior pastor of the church “Philadelphia” Pavel Zhelnovakov reminded all the present about the meaning of this ordinance.

The cup with wine and bread symbolize unity of the church. This is the ordinary bread and wine but after blessing they become sacred that should be handled with care. Paul notices: “For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord” (1 Corinthians 11:26, 27). Wine and bread should be taken with special reverence to God, ministers and people around you.

After the communion Pavel Ivanovich suggested thinking about the Father’s love that is noted in the famous verse John 3:16. It’s impossible to love “in mind”. Love should be revealed in action; it is always in movement and ready to give. In his first epistle John asks believers to love one another. This is the calling from God and He doesn’t ask impossible. The beginning of love is in care about your neighbour’s future. Thus we should share the good news about salvation through Jesus Christ. At the meeting Pavel Zhelnovakov told about the vision of the Russian church of Christians of evangelical faith that includes “Philadelphia” as well. The vision of the church — the year for Jesus, when the believers are called to dedicate their time to serving God, helping existing churches and branches in villages of the republic, telling about Christ to friends and relatives, colleagues, inviting them to special parties and church evangelism meetings (Alpha course, businessmen ministry). Senior pastor prayed for everybody who wanted to participate in this deed.

Next church meeting on 27 June is going to be evangelical one.
