Victory day

At Sunday church meeting on 9 May a special attention was paid to the holiday that is celebrated by the whole country. 9 May 1945 is God’s Victory day — He established times and limits for people. He is against those who break His commands.

At last weekend the 7th  Russian church of Christians of Evangelical faith congress was held in Moscow where there were 900 participants and guests from 87 countries. Aleksej Korepanov, one of the church “Philadelphia” representatives, shared his impressions about this congress. The main objective of the Russian church is to refresh the understanding of the task “go and make disciples”. Many people are open for serving. “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field,” — these words of Jesus are relevant in our times. Many people don’t  have salvation and Father’s love. We need to assess our hearts and answer this calling. Are we ready to put all our prayers, efforts and finances into serving God?

Dmitry Vladykin introduced a new ministry of the church “Philadelphia” — “Friends”, that invites 30-45-year-old people. The aim of the ministry is to learn to love and make friends through cell groups, meetings and sports activity. Among the main tasks of the ministry is evangelism through active rest and communication with other churches.

The Sunday sermon of senior pastor Pavel Zhelnovakov was dedicated to a difficult and important topic: “Fatherhood of God”. The Bible has got a unique revelation: God is our Father . If our heart isn’t warmed by this, it’s difficult to feel fatherhood on the earth and the spiritual one. What does fatherhood mean for God Himself? Several Bibles verses (Psalm 68:5, 2 Corinthians 1:3, Ephesians 1:17, John 20:17) refer to God’s fatherhood as to the source or as to the manifestation of the relationships. God’s fatherhood is revealed clearly in the parable about the prodigal son where the man hero is father, not the son. It is he who waits, meets, forgives and loves.

God’s fatherhood is joy and mercy (Jeremiah 31:18) and pain and humiliation when there is lack of respect (Hebrews 12:4-10). Greatness of fatherhood is children’s acts; greatness of God’s fatherhood is Jesus crucified on the cross. The sacrifice on the cross is the revelation of Jesus love to his Father. Greatness of God’s fatherhood is the cross.
