With new methods

Another Sunday service of “Philadelphia” church took place on August, 1st. Despite a hot summer day the hall was full.

Boris Suvorov reminded of the Holy Spirit action in our bodies. He told us about the fact that nothing has changed since the times of the letter to Ephesians: Jesus is still the same. We often speak about God, less often mention Jesus Christ in our speech, and practically forget about the Holy Spirit. “You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ”, tells us the Word of God (Romans 8:9, NIV). Boris offered us a few features of having the Holy Spirit. It is realization of sinfulness of human nature. This is mentioned in John 16, Luke 7. We were healed by the wounds of Jesus Christ, “because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God” (Romans 8:14, NIV).

Pastor Vladimir Batalov called upon new methods of speaking about Christ since the former methods are out-of-date and are no longer effective. A housemaid can speak about Christ to a housemaid only through a personal conversation with her, as well as a businessman, and as any other person. The Song of Solomon tells us to be ready to the Christ’s coming at any time and not to find excuses (Song of Solomon 5:2-3). The Judges reminds us of the power of God, that it is no difficult for Him to save people even through one person, but it is our hearts that He cares about, the hearts ready to serve and to entirely devote to Him. At the end of his sermon, Vladimir suggested three points for a successful evangelization:

1.  Change our way of thinking;
2.  Free from diffidence;
3.  Less talk, more work.

We may walk into a new day only with new methods.
