Day of Pentecost

«Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit» - Paul preached in the day of Pentecost (Acts 2). Before it he was full of doubts, but after he preached in Jerusalem, being baptized with the knowledge and divining. Such cases always bring us to a nonplus: why didn't our life change after the coming of the Holy Spirit? Who don't God make us free from the addictions or heal us?

Iliyas Mukhametdinov spoke about it on Sunday's sermon of Philadelphia church - June, 8th - put a light on this mistake with an example, given to a drug-addicted person when he was doing a rehab. This man asked for a disposal from the drug-addiction, but he didn't get it. And God answered: «I don't take addiction away; I give strength to overcome it». The Holy Spirit, given to Christians, came to us with this strength so we can't tell we are not strong enough to be patient, to love, to fight our weaknesses - His power is with us. As we know people sometimes sink because they don't believe they can swim. It is impossible for God's strength to be shown, if we don't believe in His strength. God never takes away any trials; this is how our patience, experience and trust grow. God created us to be free - so every day we are to choose and to choose the best. Only after overcoming all barriers we will value God and use His power in us in a right way. It is said: «continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling» (Philippians 2:12).

Pavel Zhelnovakov, the senior pastor of the church, spoke about the unity. Unity is one of the key feature of the Pentecost, when all Apostles were baptized by the Holy Spirit. In the book of Acts it is written: «When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place»(Acts2:1). Pavel Ivanovich reminded some words from the Gospel and the Book of Acts and summed up: before this happened all apostles walk separately and thought separately, but after they become unified, they could even speak for each other (John 21:20-22, Acts 3:1-4). Formerly Jesus, when praying to the Father, asked: «that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you» (John 17:21). If exploring the Word of God for the same point, one can find a lot of regards and commands to stay united, keep the oneness and glorify His Name in this unity. Unity is a feature of the Heavenly Kingdom. So, remembering the command of Christ, let's stay united!
