Making a decision

Last Sunday was the day when the church partook the Holy Communion. At the beginning of the sermon pastor Aleksej Obukhov suggested the church thinking about the following: what will appear in our hearts during the Communion? Two thousand years ago during the Last Supper there were decisions appearing in the hearts of the disciples: Judas made a decision to betray and did it; Peter said he would go to death with Christ and also did it. He fulfilled his promise, although he had an uneasy path full of mistakes. Meals used to be the time of communication and making decision for people of the East. In Exodus 24 the people hearing the commandments from Moses said: “Everything the Lord has said we will do”. They confirmed these words with a meal. After several days when Moses had not come back from the mountain, the people asked Aaron to make the golden calf – so they broke their promise (Exodus 32). At the end of the sermon the preacher summed up: while partaking the Communion we make decisions that would be put into practice with God. When it is difficult we should think of what Christ did for us: “Consider Him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart” (Hebrews 12:3).
